Rename and Move to Devuan Editors

This is a reminder to rename Devuan Weekly News to avoid confusion with Debian Weekly News, away from the shared acronymDWN.

Once a name has been chosen, move/clone the repository to the Devuan Editors group.

How 'bout Devuan Weekly Highlights = DWH? Or Devuan Weekly Report = DWR?

So far, I buy these from yours:

    • Devuan Weekly Dispatch (dwd)
    • Devuan Chronicles (dc, dvc, dch)
    • Devuan Weekly Highlights = DWH
    • Devuan Weekly Report = DWR

    Maybe Devuan Weekly Digest (DWD)?

MOTWcould be the name of the editorial :)

Dee Double-You * is kind of difficult to pronounce. Dee Wee *? For WWW I say: Wah wah wah. DWD -> Dude? DWH -> Dooh? I have no preference for Digest, Dispatch, Highlights, or Report.

Devuan Chronicles is snappy is the acronym can be Dee Vee See, or Dev-See. May be good for a collection of all periodic publications? (/dev/cron:)

Ok, from the Editorial on Issue XIX, all names with Weekly or similar fall from the list.

So, to resume, I think we have these:

    Devuan News

    Devuan Chronicles

    Devuan Radio Free Init

    Devuan World Service

    Devuan News Daemon

    Devuan Highlights

    Devuan Galaxy News

    Devuan Galactic Digest

    The Devuan Galactic Report

    Devuan Galactic Report

    From these I vote for

    Devuan News Daemon

    Devuan Highlights

@Envite . . . Since the release names will be taken from the list of minor planets in our solar system, perhaps all the galaxy/galactic suggestions should also be discarded? That would shorten the list some more:

    Devuan News

    Devuan Chronicles

    Devuan Radio Free Init

    Devuan World Service

    Devuan News Daemon

    Devuan Highlights

And just to confuse things, here are a few more:

    Devuan Beacon

    Devuan Grapevine

    Devuan Currents

    Devuan Tidbits

That's probably enough. I kind of like the Devuan Beacon as this project is the light leading to the future of Linux. After all it's going where no toy has gone before! Of course, feel free to discard any or all.

The Devuan home page holds the solution. It says "the almost weekly Devuan community news". Shuffling words we get: Devuan Almost Weekly News (DAWN).

(I have no sympathy for "radio free *"--we're not a radio, and not a propaganda outlet for imperialists either)

  • hellekin
    hellekin @hellekin · 2015-04-17T05:14Z

P.S.: DAWN is the NASA mission to Ceres .

Newspapers called "The Herald" aren't literally shouty blokes on horseback either, and yet their readers seldom complain. Let's discuss magic power of "the symbol".

As for "imperialism", can we let the 1960s have their epithets back? I wasn't being political and it seems a bit unecessary. Around here every building with an ugly pointy bit on top is called "Radio Free [whatever]" without the cold war being directly invoked.

I like DAWN, but still think it's like a promise, and we are to be more on the "when it is ready" way.

Anyway, I'm calling a cast for votes, from now until Tuesday 21 00:00 UTC.

    Options are:

1 Accept "Devuan Almost Weekly News - DAWN" as new name for DWN

2 Reject "Devuan Almost Weekly News - DAWN" as new name for DWN

3 The dreadful "Further Discussion" option

...just be fair, do not create pet accounts for voting.

Currently we are not an almost weekly news. We are not even an almost monthly news. What happened to the Beacon idea?

  • David Harrison
    David Harrison @garbonzo · 2015-04-17T15:20Z

DAWN sounds fine to me. Its meaning could temporarily change to "Devuan As/When News" if there are time pressures... ;-)

I Reject Devuan Almost Weekly News (DAWN). I agree with golinux in that we are not an almost weekly news or monthly. I also disagree with this "when it is ready" way. That is a concept for releasing software not news. If you are going to do the news, it needs to be done in a timely fashion. Not reporting causes a void and the chatter starts up on the mailing list. This would also help in answering the same questions that keep coming up like has Devuan been released yet. My vote is for Devuan News (DN or DVN).
