Xfce4 has broken icons by default

This is minor in importance and a long-known issue also in Debian. If you install justxfce4with aptitude, it will come out with missing icons (for example forRun Program...andCreate URL link...in the menu).

I remember digging out the problem to be caused to an incorrect packaging on the side of XFCE, but that was wheezy! Since we are already on jessie, can we please at least in Devuan fix this? I know repackaging for such a "minor" thing seems overkill, but I volunteer to do that and to maintain the package(s).

It is a shame that installing XFCE4 on Devuan gets you broken icons by default...

This probably could be fixed in desktop-base which I maintain.

Can you provide details and potentially icon files??

    Thanks, Daniel.

@CenturionDan the missing icons are ingnome-icon-theme. Yes, you read it right, the default XFCE4 references icons provided by a Gnome package...

So I think solution is to copy those icons intango-icon-theme.

It can be easily seen which icons are missing by doing a minimal install and installingxfce4alone.

Is there a bug report filed in Debian about this already? It would be nice if they fixed it there.

I don't think there is already a Debian bug report, no

I'd suggest that a debian bug report would be a good start. That way you help Debian as well as Devuan. Your best bet at a speedy resolution is to provide patches.

I am willing to contribute to Devuan at this time.

I will look into which patch(es) can be contributed to fix the issue.

    Possibly related: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=46138

The problem is that Tango, Adwaita and Oxygen icon themes are all missing some icons unless one also installsgnome-icon-theme.

The missing icon is either thesystem-runone, or the browser one etc. none of the themes has a complete set.

I think the solution is to addgnome-icon-themeas a dependency of all XFCE4 themes; not sure if relevant but also running:

    $ dpkg --listfiles gnome-icon-theme | fgrep xfce

    Will return many matches.

@gdm85 any progress there? Do you want to assign yourself? Do you need help?

I never noticed any broken icons. I just checked and gnome-icon* pkgs are installed here. I'm thinking they may have been deps for some Mate apps that I installed.
