(w)dm requires a restart for gnome to work properly

Without a restart of (w)dm, the following problems occur:

  • integrated graphics acceleration is not enabled and reported as Gallium llvmpipe instead
  • power management/shutdown/reboot is not allowed from the menu
  • colord requires authentication to add devices

By running a "service wdm restart" after start-up, these issues go away and everything works.

Hard to say what causes this issue exactly, but it is likely either gnome-session or something gnome-session consumes.

"Comment and close" just closes and does not comment. Fantastic.

I just tried slim, and gnome works fine with it.

Thus, this issue is not with systemd-less gnome, but rather with wdm -- or the combination of wdm and gnome.

So just use slim (until gdm3 works) and you'll be fine.
